Citizens of Hades County

Here are all the 40mm figures I have painted (along with portions of a couple of the 8 structures I built) since the beginning of October. 4 or 5 more I may purchase, but I have no plans for any more figures in this collection. I had two good months of some nice painting. CLICK ON THE PHOTO to get a much larger version- believe me you, this photo looks much nicer in full scale.

Man with no name

Man, does the camera pick up every crappy brushstroke- believe me, it looked better in person :) This was the last figure in my collection left to paint.

Three more figures

Here's three more painted figures (40mm). The left is suposed to be Doc Holliday- an OK sculpt (PUN). The middle is my Kane figure (from "High Noon.") The third figure is Col. Mortimer from "For a Few Dollars More." I painted him up different- He ain't Mortimer in my town.

I'm almost done painting up my 40mm figure collection- Just have one more to go!! There's only 3 or 4 more I may pick up after Christmas. I also picked up a pack of animals from Reaper. The animals are meant for 28mm heroic scale, but they work just fine for 40mm. The animals I have are an armidillo, turtle, skunk, racoon and fox (which I will paint up as a coyote.)

Still have a stagecoach to purchase, assemble and paint; that'll be next month.

Three things that made the Old West

Beer wagon, gun store and "lady" (at the saloon door.)

Beer wagon progress

Really, it's another freight wagon- this one just has a load of beer barrels in it. The load is one piece by itself and can be removed from the wagon so that I can fit other loads into it. The box will be painted reddish brown, and the wheels, light brown to yellow (drybushed on.) I may also do a simple advertising board to sit centerline above the beer barrels. The handbrake is just a length of wood glued next to the seat; it's not attached to anything- I'm not quite ready to get into intricate details such as brake mechanisms ... yet.

Finished wagon and team

Here's the last day's work; My frieght wagon is all painted up and based along with its team. I left the team unhitched/undetailed so that they can be unhitched/moved about for games.

The other horse is Helen, from the Shootouts and Showdowns contest over at Hawgleg.com (1,000 Horses for Helen.)

FINALLY a wagon

Oh man, I enjoy having a few days off, and it's ice-storming outside, so I'm stuck here and have plenty to build! My latest is this here wagon. Notice in the second photo the block on the bottom of the freight box; this block locks into the hollow box on the chassis. Since wagon wheels at this scale are scarce, I'm making my chassis interchangeable with different "boxes." I also plan on a covered wagon, lumber (or log) wagon, armored wagon and maybe even a circus wagon for shits and giggles. I won't be building a stagecoach, though. Sash and Saber make a nice one I will eventually purchase.

Klaus and a helper

Time to get crackin' on some figure painting while I give the building a rest. In time for the holidays is my blacksmith, Klaus.
