Painting desk: Day 2

All that remains is the paint rack, supply bin, assembling the top to the base and staining. The lower shelf was also installed; I'll put extra tools and supplies down there along with a few bottles of booze to help me paint.
I'm not sure if we'll be working on it on Monday. It can wait. A lot of hours went in to it the past two days, so it's a good time to take a break.

  1. Looks good so far. Looks nice & tall. Is your seat at a regular chair height or taller?

After many years with a regular set & desk height, I found that having a taller desk/table surface (in relation to the seat) was easier on the back & neck.

  2. I do have a taller chair, but lately, I've been using a slightly shorter bar stool. This brings the desktop almost to my chest. The main thing this does is to prevent me from looking down, which is hard on the neck.
With the new desk, I've raised the height another inch or so. This allows a little versatility: I can sit in my regular (tall) chair, sit on the bar stool, or even stand at the desk and paint fairly comfortably for short periods of time.
But right now, the bar stool is my favorite option; it sounds as if it would be hard on my back (with NO support), but I only paint in spurts of 20 to 30 minutes (hence the standing option), so there's no real problem there.
